About Us

Whalen Insurance was started in 1961 by Joe Whalen, a lifelong resident of Northampton who previously had a successful gasoline and home heating oil business. His son Peter entered the agency in 1982 and has served as President most of that time since.

The agency is deeply committed to its staff, its clients and the community. Members of the staff have been with Whalen Insurance for almost 15 years on average. The agency serves several thousand clients and the percentage of them who opt to renew their policies each year dramatically outpaces industry standards.

Peter Whalen has served on many of the boards of trustees that operate important non-profits in our community such as the Cooley Dickinson Hospital, The United Way, Leader’s Circle, The Academy of Music, The Center for the Arts and many others.
